Biote hormone replacement and breast cancer: What’s the connection and what do the studies say?

On Behalf of | Jan 14, 2025 | Hormone Pellet Therapy Class Action |

Hormones are important chemicals in the body that affect and regulate many of the major body systems and functions, such as growth, metabolism and reproduction. However, some individuals suffer from hormonal imbalances that interfere with their energy, mood and overall well-being. To help people with hormonal imbalances, medical practitioners may use a treatment called bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). BHRT uses artificial hormones created from plants to mimic the body’s natural hormones.

BHRT allows individuals to seek medical treatment that is unique to their hormonal imbalances, such as mood swings, night sweats, weight gain or fatigue. BHRT can be administered through creams, oral pills, patches or by inserting small pellets under the skin that release hormones such as estrogen or testosterone over time. These bioidentical hormones are structures that act identically to hormones the human body would typically produce, which can reduce the risk of other forms of hormone therapy. Patients may not see the effects of BHRT until weeks or months after treatment.

Just like any kind of medical treatment, BHRT is not without some risks. Some studies have shown that some HRT treatments would increase the risk of breast cancer. It is important for patients to be aware of the risks of BHRT before beginning treatment.

Does BHRT have a connection to breast cancer?

Breast cancer is a serious illness that affects millions of people worldwide, severely harming the victim’s well-being and, in many cases, leading to death. One of the considerations people should make before seeking BHRT is whether the treatment has any ties to breast cancer.

The link between BHRT and breast cancer is a complex topic. Studies have shown that any form of hormone replacement therapy increases the risk of breast cancer. Yet, some researchers believe that the benefits of hormone replacement treatments outweigh the risks, such as breast cancer.

Hormone replacement treatments may not be recommended to people who have a history of breast cancer in their family. Individuals should talk to their medical provider to learn more about the risk of breast cancer when taking BHRT. People who are unaware of the dangers of BHRT and are suffering from breast cancer may need to learn about their legal rights.
